The 8th Neville Cardus Lunch
The Eighth Neville Cardus Lunch — Tuesday March 31st 2020, 12.00 for 12.30 at Emirates Old Trafford.
The Lunch is an annual event designed to help keep alive the name of Sir Neville and his writings. It will also help further promote the Archive which is developing strongly. At last year's lunch we had over 55 people attending.
This year's Lunch will take place at Emirates Old Trafford on Tuesday March 31st in the Club Suite in the Pavilion.
We are delighted to welcome back as speaker Duncan Hamilton, a Patron of the Cardus Archive, whose presence this year is particularly timely and relevant. Duncan has just received the William Hill Sports Book of the Year award (for the third time!), on this occasion for his brilliant and especially apt biography of Neville Cardus himself: "The Great Romantic: Cricket and the Golden Age of Neville Cardus".
Copies of the book will be available, of course, at the Lunch. Duncan's participation this year will include a "first" for us, in the form of a Question & Answer session. And already he has another fond retrospective on the game in the pipeline, described as a short elegy for red-ball cricket and scheduled for publication this summer.
The Lunch, at 12 noon for 12.30pm, will be open for anyone to book (£35) although we will be limiting places, so please book early. It will be a three course meal plus coffee, to a special menu. (Please tell us if you would like a vegetarian option.).
We hope to have between 50-60 people, amongst them Patrons of the Archive along with representatives of Lancashire CCC and the Hallé. There will inevitably be some informal reflections and reminiscences of Neville over the meal, as well as the opportunity to see some of our archival material and to contribute ideas for the Archive's further development.
We have already produced five books from the Archive's now extensive resources. The most recent of them is Cardus Undimmed which focuses on the last decade of Neville's life, with a look too at some of the other splendid cricket writers of Neville's time, their own writings, and their relationships with Neville himself.
Cardus Undimmed — Price £10.00 (post free)

We do hope you will be able to join us on what should be another memorable occasion.
All proceeds go to supporting the Cardus Archive.
