Cardus Lunch & Archive
The 2017 Neville Cardus Lunch will take place on Wednesday 5th April, 12.00 for 12.30pm.
This fifth Neville Cardus Lunch will be in the Brown Shipley Suite at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester and is an annual event designed to help keep alive the name of Sir Neville and his writings. It will also help further promote the Archive which is developing strongly. At last year's lunch we had over 45 people attending to listen to WG Grace's latest biographer, Richard Tomlinson.
We are delighted to have as our guest speaker this year the multi-award-winning sports writer and journalist, Duncan Hamilton, who can look across a writing career in which he has proved equally at home in cricket and football, as well as in the arts of biography; Brian Clough, Harold Larwood, and George Best have all featured amongst his subjects.
Duncan's achievements speak for themselves. He has twice won the William Hill Sports Book of the Year award and has been nominated for it on four further occasions. He has also won two Wisden Book of the Year prizes and two British Sports Book Awards. His study, For the Glory, a biography of the athlete and missionary Eric Liddell, came out last year and became a New York Times bestseller.
His latest work, The Kings of Summer, is due out in April and focuses on the climax to the 2016 cricket season; Duncan tells us that the new book features Neville Cardus heavily, so Duncan's participation this year is particularly welcome and opportune.
The Lunch, at 12 noon for 12.30pm, will be open for anyone to book and costs £35 although we will be limiting places so please book early. We hope to have between 40-50 people. We are also hoping to see our Patrons, representatives of Lancashire CCC & the Hallé. The lunch is three courses plus coffee and we will be producing a special menu for those who are present. (There is a vegetarian option -please inform us when booking).
We do hope you will be able to join us on what should be another memorable occasion.
Tickets: Tickets cost £35.00. Please make cheques payable to Lancashire CCC

THE NEVILLE CARDUS ARCHIVE at Emirates Old Trafford Cricket Ground.
Patrons: Joyce Kennedy, Elizabeth Grice, Michael Henderson, Katherine Daniels, Christopher Brookes, Sir Michael Parkinson.
We are very pleased to announce that Sir Michael Parkinson, no mean cricketer and writer on the game himself, has agreed to be a Patron of the Archive and he hopes to speak at next year's lunch.
We have already produced four books from the Archive's now extensive resources, the latest of them 'Neville Cardus Reflects: Pages from a Writer's Notebook & Correspondence', consisting of 60 illustrated pages of Cardus's reminiscences and reflections on his life and his craft — most of this previously unpublished material taken from a notebook kept by Neville from 1949 to 1951.
We are now working on a new study which we hope to have available later this year, focussing on the last decade of Neville's life, with a look too at some of the other splendid cricket writers of Neville's time, their own writings, and their relationships with Neville himself.
