A Bibliography of Sir Neville Cardus 1913-2023

Limited Edition of A Bibliography of Sir Neville Cardus between 1913 and 2023.

In 1965 Prof. John McIlwaine published his four-part bibliography of Neville Cardus. It was — and remains — an outstanding piece of research, fully acknowledged by Cardus who paid his tribute in the Cricket Quarterly that year.

Prof. McIlwaine listed 851 entries in the bibliography, starting with a Musical Opinion article in 1916 and concluding with an essay on Sir Thomas Beecham in the Christmas 1964 edition of About the House.

For some years the heritage team at Emirates Old Trafford have wanted to bring the Cardus bibliography up to date. Nearly sixty years have passed since Prof McIlwaine published parts one to four, so you could say it's about time!

Interest in the writings and life of Sir Neville appear undiminished given the number of excellent publications since his death in 1975.

This new, limited edition, bibliography contains Prof. McIlwaine's original parts one to four covering 1916-1964 and the new part five for 1965-2023.

We have updated parts one to four to include publications and reprints of books for that period that were unknown at the time, and the bibliography is fully indexed.

In all the Cardus Bibliography now comprises 1,499 entries (1,175 publications plus 324 entries in the appendix detailing his years in Australia between 1940-47) and we hope it will be a great source of information and aid future research on his life and work.
